The Research Grant in Book Creation & Design – session 2023 – awarded by the Mariemont Book Workshop, has been granted to Grégoire Vigneron (Belgium) for his project ‘Binding with Paper Hooks and Keys.’

The jury consisted of: Anne Leloup (lithographer and publisher), Suzanne Schmollgruber (bookbinder and director of Centro del bel libro in Ascona, Switzerland), Elise Van Rechem (bookbinder affiliated with the Mariemont Book Workshop), Muriel Verhaegen (publisher, author, and bookseller), Daniel Vander Gucht (author, publisher, and professor-researcher at the university), Thorsten Baensch (artist-publisher and educator), and Sofiane Laghouati (curator of the Precious Reserve at the Royal Museum of Mariemont, scientific director of the Book Workshop, and visiting professor at the university).


In Grégoire Vigneron’s project, the jury particularly appreciated the highly innovative aspect of the proposed structure. They found the candidate’s research project relevant, contemporary, and utilizing current technological processes. The jury also highlighted the meticulous work around this assembly and the potential for its development within the scope of a research grant.


The laureate’s research will be carried out during the year 2023.”
